I should have stayed in bed today. Every sign was trying to tell me not to face the world, not today. From the moment I saw the closed subway, I should have turned around, come back to the apartment, and called in sick to school.
If not then, I should at least have faked a seizure when Beth announced that I would be the one being observed formally by Andrew, for the entire hour. Others will have their turns, but I was first.
My class was a total bomb. That's not some self-conscious, insecure thing. It flew like a lead balloon. The class was an hour long. I had planned, as instructed, lots of fun, lively activities, having students get up and do things. They would have none of it.
From the moment I saw Silvia, and older woman who walks with crutches, being assisted by my professor into her chair, I should have lit myself on fire and run from the building, screaming. Silvia was a perfectly nice woman, immediately, I knew she wouldn't be able to physically perform most of the fun, lively activities. Silvia was the least of my problems.
No one wanted to do anything, and my entire lesson was basically finished in 20 minutes. They thoughts the games were stupid, they were bored by the subjects, and they just wanted to ask about prices of consumer electronics in the States.
After class, biting back tears, I got on the very crowded subway. People are packed in so tightly that being pressed up against lots of people is inevitable. When I first felt a hand brush my rear end, I figured it was one of those accidental things. A few moments later, when that same hand squeezed my bottom, I knew it was no accident. Turning around or moving was a physical impossibility, but I moved my head enough to see from the corner of my eye a businessman older than my own father.
What could I say? I couldn't outright accuse him, I couldn't lift my arms to punch him, I could move away, so I did the only thing I could. As subtly as that disgusting pervert had molested me, I shoved my elbow into his disgusting stomach. He retreated his hand. I was afraid if I retreated my elbow he would take that as an invitation, so I continued to dig my bony elbow into his side, eventually causing him to push through the crowd, slowly backing up. Take that, you bastardo!
To comfort myself, I stopped by the viverio to buy a plant. Though I will leave it in a few weeks, I needed some living thing to bring some sweetness to my day. When I saw the plant labeled Phoenix, I knew it was the one.
It's a pretty type of palm tree. Hugging the pot on the way home, I already started feeling better.
Bri's at an empanada making party right now. I can't wait for her to get home, so I can have something hug me back.
